Mr.Lee and the school

Mr. Lee is the secondary principal for GIA. This new principal has many plans for GIA and himself. He has worked at a few other schools before ours and is here for two years.


When asked of Mr. Lee what his visions were for our school Mr. Lee a list of five things. Number one, that the staff would be dedicated to the school. Number two is that the students would respect their teachers and their peers. Number three is that our school would produce more dynamic people. Numbers four and five are that we, as students and teachers, would have more spiritual opportunities, and that we would also be aware of one another.

Mr. Lee has had many blessings since he has been to our school. The biggest blessing he mentioned was grace, from the staff and teachers. He also said that he is seeing that the school is working together to become more of a community.

Although Mr. Lee moved here not too long ago, it was not his first time in Turkey. He came here to visit a couple of times before he moved here. That was how he heard about GIA. When he was visiting Turkey some people told him about our school.

Although it was not Mr. Lee’s intentions to come to GIA at first, he feels as if it was God’s will for him to come. He was planning on going to Nepal, but that plan fell through so he came to GIA.

Our new secondary principal has a lot of things he would like to improve at our school. There are many other people at our school that agree with Mr. Lee on what needs to be improved. Mr. Lee has been a big help to the whole school and is a very encouraging person who wants to get to know all about the people of GIA.

Last year, a baseball team was formed at IGA. Tim B. was working with a Turkish baseball federation here in Turkey and decided that baseball should be continued at IGA. IGA agreed with Tim and decided that if he would coach it then they would get students to join.


The kids that signed up were all pretty new to baseball. “Most of the kids had not played baseball on a team before”, Coach Tim, but that did not seem to be too big of a problem. Because there were so many different ages of the kids that signed up, two different teams were made. One team was for older players ages 12-16, and the other one was for the younger kids from ages 9-11. Tim was the coach of the little league team.

Practice was held two days a week for two hours each of those days. “It was not enough, but the kids don’t usually have time for more practices,” says Coach Tim. To get his players prepared for practice, Coach Tim does stretches and practices throwing with the team.

When asked what was the most important part of baseball, he answered, “Having a good attitude and working as a team. Baseball is a team sport in which all players must work together for the team. Everyone gets a chance to be the one that the whole team relies on.” This was his favorite part of coaching. He really enjoyed it, and said that he will be coaching next season.

The baseball team is improving with practice and won 1 game out of 4 that were played. Next season, IGA baseball might have more competition because of the rising popularity of baseball in Turkey. Even so, IGA is always up for a challenge.
